The Evolution of Runescape Account Hacking and Runescape Account Recovery

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

This is the second part of our article on the evolution of RS Account Hacking and Recovery.

One of the common examples is this: one tries to steal another’s account, provides all the details needed in the recovery system (don’t ask me how they get such info – some players are stupid enough to disclose such info to “friends” in game, or have the security questions and answers really easy to uncover), but still – fail in the end. WTF some would say? The IP address doesn’t match. Of course, in many cases you can change your IP manually or say your provider gives a new IP address after each reset of your modem – but that’s not the case every time, and you have to prove that.

As an interesting note to wrap it all up, having no recovery information provided makes it… even harder to have the Runescape account stolen. As strange as it may sound, this is true! No security/recovery details/question – no way for a hacker to pretend to be you and provide these details to game owners, asking for a new password and such. Think about that. It sounds risky but it might actually be an answer to such situations. Jagex doesn’t give accounts back to people that don’t have recoveries set on their accounts, which is completely fine if you ask me. Runescape is a well-run business now, making it pretty hard for any wannabe hackers to make their name. The Good Old Days are over. You’re going to have to try much harder than throwing a suicide card at the recovery system or the people taking care of recovery requests.

Account Hacking and Account Recovery Aren’t That Simple Anymore

Monday, October 10th, 2011

This is Part 1 of a two-part article on the evolution of Runescape Account Hacking and Runescape Account Recovery.

Some people tend to think, “hackers all around me, just waiting to put their filthy hands on my hard earned account!” Hard to believe, but yes, such tries do actually happen. And one of the most annoying types is using the Account Management system to recover the pass and such.

In most cases, recovery submissions are dealt with by automatic systems, matching the information they have in their records with the information provided by a “player” trying to recover his (?) account. It’s not an easy task to fool an auto sys guarding account details, and even harder to fool a real person checking the submissions personally. So, even playing the “suicide card” in your submission (saying you don’t have a reason to live without your account) won’t give you a success guarantee. Those people do have a brain you know? Contrary to what many people say about gamers and people from this business, they really do think. And such reasoning will in 99% of cases just get you on a black list, having developers and mods keeping an eye on you and your actions.

In our next article on the subject, we’ll explain a common scenario where one person is trying to steal another person’ account and we’ll tell you how to make it even harder to steal your account!

How to Protect Your Runescape Account

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Although 99% of the people that play this game are honest, there are a few scammers out there and it’s necessary to do all that you can to protect your Runescape 2 account. If you are brand new to the game, or if you just haven’t take the necessary precautions yet, here is some advice on how to protect your RS account.

1. Never share your password. This is a vital step. Remember, the game maker will never ask you to reveal your Runescape account information, unless it is for billing purposes. It’s best to make sure that you do all that you can to hide your password. Don’t choose common words, never make the password the same as your character name, and remember that you should never share your RS account log in with anyone else.

2. Use Anti-Virus software. This is an important step in protecting your Runescape 2 account information, but few players realize just how vital this really is. It is all too easy for someone to send you an image that will allow them to monitor your keystrokes, or hack into your account through your own computer. The best way to prevent this is by securing your RS2 account properly and installing both anti-virus and anti-spam protection.

3. Change your password often. One of the best ways to ensure that your domain name is safe is to constantly change your Runescape account password.  Make a habit to do this every so often to make sure that your RS2 account is safe.

How to Start Your Runescape 2 Account

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Since this game is free, once you’ve decided that you want to play and you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be able to start your Runescape account immediately. Before you do, there are a few things that you should remember and there are a few things that you should know that will help you build a stronger character. First and foremost, when you are signing up for your RS2 account, remember to keep your log in information in a safe place. You don’t want to share this with anyone since RS hacking is prevalent.

Next, you’ll need to carefully decide what attributes you want your character to have. This is a very important stage of building your Runescape 2 account and you don’t want to rush to any decisions right off the bat. Study the different races and options for your character and take the time to learn about the different professions that are available. While you can always just start over if you are unhappy with your results, this does take time and it can be frustrating.

Setting up your RS account is actually pretty easy and if you take the time to do it right, you’ll be able to get off the ground running and enjoy yourself more. Take care with your Runescape account information, take the time to build up a great character, and you’ll be able to reap all the benefits that this great game can bring. Once you have your character all built, you’ll be ready to go.
